3.26.09 - Project Update!

Day 2 of the installation was completed without issue. The site was successfuly commissioned thanks to the careful planning and experience of engineers Kevin Worrall and Kris Hicks. The system lit up on the first attempt and was optimized for coverage and throughput. We performed field tests and compiled the results. As testing concluded, Thierry Chau, product specialist for IPWireless joined the group and participated in the debrief at the SGRITA HQ on Tuesday. Today, Thierry informed us that he has recieved approval to provide SGRITA with a 700mhz radio system for us to evaluate. Some of the key benefits of this pre-LTE system are; mobility, proven and mature hardware, support backed by experienced RF engineers, and the ability to roam between 2.5Ghz (deployed in more urban areas) and 700mhz (for reaching deep into the south Georgia forests) seamlessly. This system has been deployed for T-Mobile in dozens of countries around the world. It is a true carrier-class system that is relatively cost effective.CLICK HERE FOR A SLIDESHOW (Video will follow soon).

3.20.09 - Project Update!

Day 1 of the evaluation site build is complete. Today our team assembled the gear, installed the antennas, lines, and unpacked the equipment. The RF equipment we are testing is from IP Wireless. We have been given a TD-CDMA solution that has a direct upgrade path to LTE (the new cellular phone company long-term strategy) to test and see if it meets our range and throughput requirements. The network in a box system came in via an international carrier late Thursday. The Executive Director of SGRITA, Lee Conner donated his truck to transport the mountain of equipment to the site Thursday night. All the consumables we purchased from Tessco Technologies and Gunby Communications provided facilities and grounding engineering. Tower & Telecom Systems installed the system. It was a very well planned deployment that we will finish tomorrow. Our friends from accross the pond will be performing field tests on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. From there, SGRITA will be evaluating the system for a few weeks. IP Wireless has also offered to allow SGRITA to evaluate a 700mhz system that runs on the same platform as this 2.5Ghz test system. 3.15.09 - Project Update!

We are moving forward with the deployment of Phase II. The SGRITA leadership has done an excellent job of steering this program through the tough decisions and technical complications that come with such a vast, far reaching project. At this time, our engineers are evaluating equpiment and preparing to go live with residential and commercial services. Testing will be occuring in the North West Mitchell County and East Baker County areas for the next 30 days. If the equipment proves to meet our requirements, we will begin mass distribution deployment immediately. Our goal is to have 6 towers serving customers by June 15th. If you have not added your name to our "registration" list, please do so. This directly affects where we will be deploying. The more people we have on the list, the faster we will build to your area. Additionally, we are presenting pricing to our board for final approval and we will post the price plans as soon as they are validated. Thank you for the continued support, and we look forward to working with all of you in the very near future.
